Some SSI Recipients Will See Three Social Security Checks in May
May presents a significant financial opportunity for certain Social Security beneficiaries. Specifically, individuals who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) through the Social Security Administration may qualify for three separate payments during the month.
Those who receive SSI benefits will obtain two SSI payments in May, in addition to their standard Social Security benefit payment. This results in a total of three Social Security payments for the month, providing extra financial support for eligible recipients.
It is important to understand that while the Social Security Administration oversees both Social Security benefits and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), these are separate programs with distinct purposes. SSI specifically serves individuals with financial needs—those aged 65 and older, blind or disabled persons, and those with limited income and minimal resources.
As of March, more than 7.4 million individuals receive SSI benefits, including seniors, adults, and children. Recently, some recipients erroneously received notices indicating they were “not receiving benefits.” The Social Security Administration has officially confirmed these notices were sent in error.
May Social Security Payment Schedule
The Social Security Administration publishes retirement benefit schedules online for 2025 and 2026. Social Security retirement payments are distributed according to birth dates:
- Wednesday, May 14: Birth dates between the 1st and the 10th
- Wednesday, May 21: Birth dates between the 11th and 20th
- Wednesday, May 28: Birth dates between the 21st and 31st
SSI recipients will receive two payments in May: the first on Thursday, May 1, and the second on Friday, May 30. It should be noted that the May 30 payment actually represents the June payment issued early. Consequently, SSI recipients will not receive another payment until July 1.
SSI Payment Schedule for Remainder of 2025

If a Social Security payment appears to be missing, the Social Security Administration recommends first contacting your bank or financial institution to determine if there is a delay. If no delay is identified, contact the agency directly at 1-800-772-1213 or reach out to your local Social Security office.
Larger Social Security Payments for Many
Since April, some recipients have begun receiving increased Social Security benefit payments due to the Social Security Fairness Act. Individuals who received public sector pensions in retirement that were previously limited by the Windfall Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset have seen their benefits adjusted.
As a result, approximately 3.2 million former public servants, including police officers, firefighters, teachers, and other public service employees, are now receiving increased Social Security payments.
These enhanced Social Security payments will continue to be reflected in eligible beneficiaries’ May checks and in all subsequent payments.
